Bonnie:
Bonnie’s smile design was
a full mouth reconstruction case that requires additional
advanced training on the part of the dentist. Dr. Canto has
not only accomplished advanced training for this type of case
at several of the nations leading educational institutions
but has been successfully rebuilding smiles like this for
more than
10 years. Bonnie had lost vertical dimension due to excessive
grinding of her teeth and old disproportionate crowns. This
loss of dimension, or shortening of the teeth, causes a collapse
of the bite which can cause pain in the TMJ or temporal mandibular
joint and even neck and back pain. Along with these types
of functional problems, a loss of vertical dimension causes
many issues esthetically causing a very aged appearance to
the mouth and face. The collapse of the bite causes overclosure
of the lips which is reflected with heavy lines and thinning
of the lips due to loss of lip support. Re-establishing proper
dimension to the face by increasing the size of the teeth
in a full mouth reconstruction is much like a non-surgical
face lift. Our patients express that they not only feel physically
better but they look many years younger. Dr. Canto utilizes
top technology as well as sound physiological principles to
determine a proper opening and then allows the patient to
literally “test drive” their new look and bite
with custom temporaries built at this new dimension. Once
total comfort and stability was accomplished, Bonnie’s
new younger smile was finalized with 28 full porcelain crowns.
Bonnie was so happy with her temporaries that she said her
twin sister would have loved to have kept those…her
new teeth were definitely better than she could have imagined.
Full mouth reconstruction is a very complex yet rewarding
type of case as patients get the ultimate in renewed comfort
and rejuvenation!
