Porcelain veneers are generally accomplished in two visits. At the first visit the teeth are prepared and impressions are taken, along with other detailed information for the laboratory. Dr. Canto then custom makes beautiful acrylic temporaries that mimic your new teeth, allowing you to “test drive” your smile. Once you and Dr. Canto approve your temporaries she communicates the specific instructions for the lab and the teeth are made. At the second visit, when the veneers are approved by you, the teeth are prepared and the life like veneers are bonded with adhesive resin cements giving you a very strong, long lasting, fabulous smile! The average operative visits are 3-4 hours long. Although most patients experience relatively mild discomfort with the procedures, Dr. Canto offers medications up to and including I.V. sedation if necessary to ensure happy visits.
Direct composite veneers are hand sculpted by Dr. Canto onto your teeth in just one visit! This type of laminate is made of resin or “tooth colored” filling material and is used when the changes needed are more conservative. If the patient is against preparation or reduction of the natural teeth and or is also wanting a lower initial cost alternative, direct bonded veneers are a great option. These types of veneers will stain over time and will need to be replaced more quickly than porcelain but are still a very popular solution for those wanting a great smile without the irreversible changes of most porcelain procedures.
