Health Question: Are Electronic Cigarettes Safe?
Electronic cigarettes have been touted as the safer alternative to tobacco based smoking products, however, some people have raised the question, \”are electronic cigarettes safe?\” Here\’s the pitch: tobacco causes cancerous effects and a slew of other medical problems, why not remove it and \”inhale\” the pure nicotine? While this may seem like the holy grail of smoking alternatives, the truth is there no true \”safe alternative\” to smoking; every form of nicotine consumption has health consequences, whether they\’re advertised or not.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
The Deal Breaker: Are Electronic Cigarettes Safe and Should I Keep Smoking Them?
The obvious answer to asking if you should continue smoking nicotine in any type of form is no. Nicotine is highly addictive and has been known to cause various health problems. However, electronic cigarettes share a premise that their product is safer than traditional tobacco products and can be safely enjoyed with little to no adverse effects.
Unfortunately, things are not so perfect with that sales pitch. Electronic cigarettes contain chemicals other than liquid nicotine, propylene glycol and glyceryn. Research on electronic cigarettes have found small amounts of nitrosamines, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and acrolein carried in either the vapor or liquid; these cancer causing chemicals and toxins have all been found in tobacco smoke.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Can Electronic Cigarettes Cause Oral Cancer?
When the vapor or liquid you are consuming contains any of these carcinogenic chemicals, the answer has to be a stout \”yes.\” Electronic cigarettes still carry these harmful chemicals, if even they are in a smaller abundance than their tobacco based counterparts, and can still be considered a risk factor for not just oral cancer, but other forms too. Answering \”are electronic cigarettes safe?\” should be an easy one; though they may seem like a safer alternative to tobacco based products, electronic cigarettes can still harm you and become a risk factor for oral cancer and other forms of this awful disease.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
